How it Works
2: Get Your Web-based Course Guide

Each course has instructor-authored materials that give you directions for completing the coursework and preparing for the exams, including:

  • A course syllabus with all the course requirements, including information about the textbook(s) you will need to purchase
  • All of the course lessons, which include the information that you need to learn in addition to your textbook(s)
  • All of the course assignments
  • All of the exam request forms and directions for arranging for a proctor to supervise your exams

You can access your materials online. The course content, textbook(s), and assignments are the same. Instructors decide how assignments will be submitted. Some instructors accept email attachments, some accept faxed assignments, and all instructors accept mailed assignments. Your instructor will return your assignments to you the same way you send them. You will need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you submit your assignments by mail.

Online Courses: When you register for a web-based course, and you are not currently a PSU student, Independent Study will issue you a temporary password to access the course online. You will still need to purchase a textbook.
