| Courses First determine which kind of course you need to take. Then click on the link to review the course offerings. High School Courses: Independent Study offers the kinds of courses Oregon high schools require for graduation. Each course is the equivalent of a standard high school semester course and earns 1/2 Carnegie Unit credit. Dual Credit (College) Courses: Independent Study also offers some of its university-level courses to advanced high school juniors and seniors. When you complete dual credit courses, you earn high school credit toward graduation at the same time you earn college credit that can be transferred to most community colleges, four-year colleges, or universities. Expanded Options Program: Indpendent Study also participates in Oregon's Expanded Options Program. Students who qualify for their high school's Expanded Options Porgram can take college courses at a distance through the Independent Study Program. Courses Online: Some of the Independent Study high school and college dual credit courses have course materials available online. When you select the online version, the Office of Independent will send you an email with a login and password to enter the course online. You will still need to purchase a textbook. You can read the course lessons and assignments online and email your instructor from within the online course. Some assignments require that you write on a worksheet that you print from the online page. You may still be required to submit your assignments by mail. Advanced Placement (AP) Courses: AP courses are offered online by our partner, COOLSchool. You can earn high school credit and, if you pass the College Board AP exam, you can transfer those credits to the college/university of your choice.
